The Variety of Tunic Tops

Although the basic shape of a tunic top does not alter, there is still a wide selection of styles, colours and fabrics currently available from retailers for this season. A tunic is one of the most versatile pieces of clothing you can wear as it can be adapted to fit any occasion

High street retailers such as Next and Marks and Spencer are currently offering long sleeved patterned and plain tunic tops which are ideal for this season and which would make perfect day wear teamed with either jeans or leggings. The spotted tunics from Next could also be smartened up by teaming with a black skirt and heels and by maybe adding a belt. Marks and Spencer has mainly wool tunics in plain colours but these could be brightened by adding a scarf or costume jewellery to either complement the colour or to contrast. The wool tunics could also be worn with thick patterned tights and boots for an attractive seasonal look.

As it is currently mid winter, there are only a limited number of short sleeved tunics currently available, but Peacocks and Matalan are high street retailers with plain short sleeved tunics on sale. These are in thinner fabrics and probably only suitable for day wear with trousers or leggings. You would be foolish to think that tunics are solely limited to daywear though. Monsoon have kimono style tunics and pleated silk tunics which, teamed with a long skirt and heels or tailored trousers, could be worn to a smart dinner.

If you are looking for a tunic top which is suitable for a party, then silk should probably be your first choice of fabric. House of Fraser currently has, in their Biba range, sleeveless silk tunics with 60s style patterns which are very on trend for this season. Monsoon has embroidered tunics which would need no additional accessories and could be worn with nude tights and heels.

If you are the sort of person to plan ahead to next summer, thin brightly patterned tunics are available in resort wear from Simply Be, Very and Net a Porter amongst others. These are ideal for beach cover ups or to be worn pool side over a swimming costume.
